Studies have shown that less than one-third of sudden cardiac arrest victims are administered immediate CPR from bystanders. A strong Chain of Survival can improve chances of survival and recovery for victims of heart attack, stroke and other emergencies. The term Chain of Survival provides a useful metaphor for the elements of the 'Emergency Cardiovascular Care' (ECC) systems concept.
